Age is a fact of life, and with aging come certain debilitating effects, to an extent, for all. Falls, scrapes, and pains that would have simply been shrugged off when younger can now be seriously incapacitating. When no one is around to help or is not even aware that something has happened, things can quickly go from bad to much, much worse. A simple alert system, a warning to a loved one that they have been injured, may be a literal lifesaver. Luckily, there are more than a few options available, so let’s take a look at a few of them.

Start with a store that is comprehensive and complete and that features alert systems for all eventualities. This personal safety device manufacturer has systems for when a senior is mostly home when they are on the go and need help to just be a button press away, and has a GPS too. Or perhaps you want style and function to be a factor too, so a Smartwatch with a medical alert system built in should the need arise.
Fall Detection
There are many different features in medical alert systems, and one of these is fall detection, which some systems offer in wearable devices, albeit for an added monthly fee. It is a very useful feature, though, as one in four adults over the age of 65 falls at least once a year, so it is a feature worth considering. A simple trip or just losing balance can end quite badly, and if help is not available on the double, further issues like shock can complicate things further. A fall detection feature removes this worry.
Medical Alert Range
A help button included with an in-home system will only function within a certain range from the base unit, and most of them have a range of 200 to 1,000 feet, which is about as long as three football fields, to put that into perspective. If the senior is generally in or around their home most of the time, a range of 300 feet is adequate, but if they go outside a lot, like on shopping trips or driving around and so on, more range or a mobile alert device will likely be the best option. As mentioned, these usually come with GPS, making it no issue to track and locate the user if something has happened.
Location Tracking
If you have a medical alert system and notify the necessary contacts that you are in an emergency, but it does not feature location tracking, then you might as well not have done anything at all, and now they have to guess where you are. That will not do, which is why location tracking is so important, present in all quality mobile alert devices, using a combination of GPS, Wi-Fi, and cellular networks to triangulate the exact location of their user to the emergency services. In an emergency, this may also prove to be a lifesaver.
